Quake II
Quake II is one of
the best first-person shooters there is. You are a Marine, trapped
on an alien planet, and trying to get to the hangar
to get out. The graphics are, on the most part, excellent. The game play
is very good, the types of guns you can get and upgrades make it a complex
and fun game to play. It can get a little repetitive, walking around
and constantly killing aliens, but it is always fun. There are 6 different
types of aliens in the game, from some you can kill with up to 3 blaster
shots (head shots count extra, and so do torso shots), to guys you pretty
much can’t kill with a blaster, because they would take almost
50 shots. These guys you can kill with a machine gun, a rail gun, a super-shotgun
(a secret gun I found), or even chuck a grenade at them. The game can
lag a little bit when there is a lot of stuff going on, like 4 people
coming at you at once and you are trying to move and shot, but it doesn’t
happen often.
There are 12 complex levels, each with different types of problems you
have to get past, like the power is out and you have to restore it to
be able to open a series of doors, and then destroy the power cubes so
the aliens can’t follow you. This level took me about half an hour,
no cheats, no walkthroughs, and it was one of the first. One of the higher
levels took me almost two hours to beat, it was so hard. You can save
whenever you want, which is good and bad. It makes the game easier, good,
but that is also bad because you can save whenever you do anything at
all, making the game too easy. All in all though, it is a great game,
definitely worth owning.
